Hammersmith Soundscape

Soundscape for Hammersmith is an acoustic landscape situated in one of the few remaining open spaces in the West Kensington area, ubderused because of the vast amount of vehicular traffic that passes along teh Talgarth Road. The proposal is for a 400M long acoustic landscape- soundscape- that takes teh form of a double sine wave earthwork, 6M high at its crest, dmpening the noise emanating from Tlgarth Road. The soundscape is a prototypical structure that could be formed adjacent to any noisy strip of major road. Landscape with indigenous plants, trees, and grasses that arerevealed as you travel along the endless foot path, looping the park. Recessed and projecting grass cones deflect the sound of children playing, sound craters hold climbing frames, sandpits, slides, and rope structures.

Features include; a multi-purpose pavilion with a cafe, terrace, and pods that contain public WC, ice-cream vendors, kitchen and service area overlooking the fountain. A pierced tilted disk paving with light and water emanating from the holes. playing filed, a WWII memorial garden, teh lost house, and secret garden. The existing foorpath close to the polluted street has been diverted to accentuate the space of teh pedestrian, with lens shaped surfaces that act as billcoards to generate revenue through advertising.

Client: London Borough of Hmmersmith and Fulham
