A source of light lifts it self up from the landscape and greets you as a beacon in the distance on a gloomy day. As one approaches, the forest floor opens like a carpet and light streams out from underneath, where life and activities gradually appears.

As the uppermost and final site of a series of activity areas starting with the Bergenshallen to the South, the proposed hall provides spaces for different functions such as skating, dancing, table tennis and marshal art. The shape of the roof is meant to be an extrusion of the landscape itself, providing a floating platform for outdoor activities as well as giving shelter to the sports hall below. The structure is integrated into a very characteristic landscape connecting the higher and lower levels of the valley forming a major outdoor half pipe.

Along the main access road the building is placed tightly towards the raised terrain. The hall can be approached via the main access on ground floor facing north or from the higher street level via the roof.

A vertical glazed volume is perforating the wooden roof connecting the lower main entrance with the upper street level. This is where the social meeting places are gathered over several levels together with the vertical circulation. Accommodating a cafe, the glass cube and the roof terrace are a perfect viewpoint towards town and waterfront. The outdoor half pipe sitting in a hull is also the spine of the building, accommodating services, circulation space and changing facilities as well as connecting the main skating hall to the out door volleyball pitch. A second phase will cover the volleyball fields completing the shape with its second wing. The roof is built in a boat like structure having a robust surface of specially prepared and bent wood panels.

The building is thought to be a stage for young people acting in there preferred sports, communicating and playing. The structure provides a platform of interaction between "actors and spectators"...
