Phos Architects have been shortlisted from nearly 100 international practices to design a new observation tower at Crosby Beach on the River Mersey.

The proposed Mersey Observatory will allow visitors and residents of Liverpool to view the world famous city like never before. The proposed building represents a physical and metaphorical torch of guidance and warning, of information and reassurance, of changing seasons and attitudes within the city.

The shortlisted design by Phos Architects in collaboration with
Buro Happold engineers was recently awarded second place and will form part of an exhibition to celebrate Liverpool as European Capital of Culture 2008.
