Project Profile
Burberry Building

This refurbishment and conversion of the former Burberry factory building in Hackney envisages a high quality mixed use development combining commercial space, leisure activities and dwellings both for sale and rent-controlled. The proposal will provide a variety of the services, workplaces, and homes that help create a new locus for city life.

The ground floor has a cafe and a variety of retail units on Chatham Place while to the rear, accessed from a new glazed galleria, is a semi-public space which gives access via open stairs and bridge links to the office units at the ground and first floors. This galleria also permits access to the rear of the retail units.

The second floor contains a variety of one, two and three bedroom units in both east and west blocks, all of which have dual aspect, and some of which have triple aspect. The third and fourth floors contain a similar arrangement of flats for sale. Some of these are live/work units. A new, lightweight addition to the roof provides compact duplex units arranged around small courtyards. Both locations offer superb views in all direction over the skyline of London.

Internally the flats are generous in their proportions and fitting out. All of the flats contain mezzanine galleries for storage and the majority have open plan, informal arrangements which emphasize their spaciousness. Sliding doors and walls are provided for privacy.
