Project Profile
Private House in Hertfordshire

The design of this new, highly innovative, bespoke modern home is a response to the clients' active and intelligant interest in architecture. At the same time, the retention of the existing tree canopy and lawn on the redeveloped site, designed by a head gardener from Kew, has influenced the intimate relationship between the house and the new and existing garden spaces. The simplicity in form of the rectangular, two-storey volume, penetrated at ground level by the driveway which opens into a double height courtyard, is reflected in the natural materials used - concrete, wood, granite, stainless steel and glass, with plaster and render. The architectural commission expanded to include the design of the furniture, fixtures and fittings, as well as lanscape design and planting, and the involvement of commissioned artists was integral to the development of the house.
