240 Blackfriars Project by AHMM
whicharchitect assisted with arranging a site visit for 17 students from London Metropolitan University to be shown an outstanding project under construction by Alford Hall Monaghan and Morris (AHMM).
Haydn Thomas, Project Architect at AHMM, together with MACE, the contractor, were extremely helpful in revealing the architecture construction process to students. Cheryl Pilliner-Reeves, architect and Senior Lecturer at London Met, also primed the students on how to make the most of the visit.
The project is BREEAM Excellent and a variety of low energy specifications, such as chilled beams and ceilings and glazing with excellent G values.
Students were given full PPE and a thorough tour of the site.
Rija Khawaja commented after the visit;
"It was fun and very helpful towards having an insight on how concrete structures are built and considering how each storey is built. The building is quite similar in some aspects to the building which i have for my tech book case study so i can use the information the architect gave us and relate it to the case study. The senior architect who showed us the site, I would like to say a big thanks to him, he was very informative and kind answering all our questions."
Pilliner-Reeves of London Met added "We would like to give a big thank you to AHMM and MACE for making this happen."
whicharchitect looks forward to the opportunity to assist with the knowledge transfer between architectural practice and education again next year.
