Posten's Buildings, London

A mix of retail, cafés, restaurants and flexible, media-style office space within Shoreditch Village, a vibrant mixed-use masterplan in the heart of east London's creative quarter.

Our proposal comprises of a series of retail, restaurant and café spaces targeted at unusual brands, representative of the aspirational culture of Shoreditch. The internal spaces have been designed to provide a high degree of flexibility, catering for a range of tenant types and sizes. Taking cues from its position at the centre of London’s Tech City media and technology hub, media-style offices are aimed towards both start up and established companies from these sectors.

External materials on the lower stories of Posten’s Buildings create the appearance of a dark base or plinth level, rooting the building in the urban landscape. The dark coloured engineering brick indigenous to the local area wraps the facade from Shoreditch High Street and continues into the site. The upper storeys are expressed as a distinct element, comprising of lightweight, light coloured and transparent materials that soften the impact of the massing when viewed against the sky. Alternating vertical strips of curtain wall glazing and U-profile glass rainscreen provide subtle textural variation. The buildings are connected by an upper level ‘Platform’ providing external seating areas with views over a vibrant public realm below. Planted rooftop gardens draw upon Shoreditch’s lively and interesting roofscape.
