Project Profile
CitizenM Shoreditch

A new innovative 185-room hotel in Shoreditch for international operator citizenM, offering its guests affordable luxury.

citizenM Shoreditch is located at the heart of the Shoreditch Village development within the South Shoreditch Conservation Area. A two-storey steel ‘plinth’ structure is a reinterpretation of the demolished Kingsland Viaduct and accommodates shops, a café bar and restaurant. A ‘floating’ glass front-of-house at first floor projects past the plinth structure, suggesting a reconnection with the remnants of the existing viaduct. Hotel room modules are stacked above the plinth, making reference to Village Underground’s tube carriages on top of a neighbouring viaduct. The façade is carefully detailed, consisting of a layering of modulated textured glass that will animate the building throughout the day and night.

Innovative design solutions achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating, reducing carbon emissions using renewable energy technologies and new construction techniques. The modular bedrooms will be prefabricated and arrive fully functional to site.

Planning Approval July 2013
